“And whose words are better than someone who calls others to Allah, does good, and says, ‘I am truly one of those who submit?’”

Frequently asked questions

Qualifications & Eligibility

Formal qualifications such as degrees or institute certificates are highly preferred. We also weight informal qualifications heavily — particularly Ijazah, Sanad, or recognised endorsements from established scholars in the Islamic tradition. Where neither is available, we consider exceptional cases on their own merit, including significant teaching experience or recognised standing in the community. Every application is reviewed carefully by our team.

Formal Islamic studies degrees, certificates from recognised institutions, and traditional Ijazahs are all accepted. The key is verifiable authenticity — our team will review the issuing institution or scholar.

We verify in two stages. First, our team reviews submitted documents and the full application form (Step 2). If that's approved, the applicant submits a short recorded video for internal review (Step 3) — covering their background, the courses they'd like to teach, and their teaching methodology. This video is seen only by the Project Talab team and is separate from the public profile video teachers later record for students.

Registration & Approval

No. Teacher registration and profile approval are completely free of charge.

Yes — you set your own price per lesson for each course you offer. Project Talab keeps a flat 10% commission on completed lessons, with no other fees or charges.

Each stage is reviewed by our team. Each review usually takes up to 2 working days. We'll keep you updated by email at every stage so you're never left wondering where things stand.

You will be notified with reasons. You're welcome to reapply once any concerns are addressed.

Teaching & Scheduling

It depends on the subject. For core Islamic sciences like Quran, Tafseer, Hadith, Fiqh and Aqeedah, we require teachers to hold relevant qualifications. For broader topics — such as Islamic history, parenting from an Islamic perspective, or marriage — we're more flexible, provided the course is clearly grounded in a recognised book or curriculum. These are areas the platform actively wants to encourage. If you're proposing a course of this kind, tell us about your sources, your reading, and how you'd structure the material — and we'll review it on its merits.

No. Male teachers teach male students only, and female teachers teach female students only. This is a hard rule on the platform.

Notify the student and the platform as early as possible. Repeated missed sessions may result in removal from the platform.

Yes. Each new course must be reviewed and approved by Project Talab before it appears on your profile.

Payments & Earnings

Student payments are processed via Stripe. Once a lesson is confirmed complete by both parties, your earnings for it become available in your balance, less our commission. You request a withdrawal whenever you choose — there is no fixed payout day, though payouts are paid out by Project Talab in batches to your chosen payout method (bank transfer, Payoneer, Wise or PayPal). A minimum withdrawal amount applies; we pay the transfer fee.

Project Talab keeps a flat 10% commission on each completed lesson. There are no other fees or charges — what you set as your lesson price is what determines your earnings, minus the 10%.

Paying outside the platform is against our Code of Conduct and Terms & Conditions, which both students and teachers agree to upon signing up. As Muslims, we expect everyone to honour this as an amaanah — a sacred trust. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Muslims are bound by their conditions.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 3594)

If a student suggests an off-platform arrangement, you’re expected to decline. Off-platform arrangements may result in removal for both parties — and beyond that, teaching through Project Talab protects you with secure payments, dispute resolution, and the trust of a verified student base.
